CLIMTAG

Climate Information Service and Tool for Agriculture

CLIMTAG is a cloud-based, open-access climate information platform that supports the agricultural sector around the world in adapting to climate change and becoming more climate resilient.

Our co-designed and user-validated dashboard gives meteorological service providers, agricultural researchers, extension officers and public policymakers, an objective and more complete view on past and future climate scenarios and potential impacts of climate in agricultural activities.

State-of-the-art climate science, made accessible to all

A climate information platform that is grounded on scientifically sound, peer reviewed, state-of-art climate science:

  • ERA-5 historical climate since 1981 - the state-of-the art in global climate reconstruction

  • CMIP6 future climate projections until 2100, and the latest IPCC climate scenarios

  • High spatial resolution: ~1km

  • High temporal resolution: 10-daily time periods

  • Bias-corrected and validated data

  • More than 50 agri-climate indicators and crop indexes

CLIMTAG’s datasets benefit from and contribute to the Copernicus Climate Change Service

Open-access climate intelligence for agricultural adaptation planning

Agriculture depends directly on weather, making it highly exposed to climate variability, shifting rainfall patterns, drought, heat stress and changing crop calendars. As climate change increases these risks, farmers, planners and agricultural stakeholders need reliable, region-specific climate information to understand trends and impacts, anticipate change and design effective adaptation strategies that protect productivity and strengthen resilience.

How does it work?

CLIMTAG is a free-access, user-friendly platform. After creating a personal account, you can easily explore all available countries, scenarios and indicators for your climate information case-study.

  1. Create an account – your request will be approved in an instance.
  2. Select the countries of interest
  3. Select a timeframe and climate scenario
  4. Explore the available indicators & country regions
  5. Visualize the maps and graphs
  6. Download useful data formats
  7. Get the data highlights from the LM box

The best is the use of climate change data, as well as the graphs for teaching and preliminary research by students at my university

The tool itself is good and can be very useful for Farmers

We explored the CLIMTAG software, which allows for viewing future climate projections.  It will help us adapt to the realities of climate change and face its impacts, as climate change is not something we can ignore. We’ve already experienced flooding during this rainy season and an extreme heat wave in March-April 2024
