In the Sahel region, changing weather patterns like the decrease in rainfall and increase in extreme events are negatively impacting the production of important crops for smallholder farmers, such as sorghum. The project StratAdapt-Mali enables national agricultural, scientific and governmental organizations to jointly study and select climate-adapted sorghum farming practices, by combining CLIMTAG’s climate intelligence with crop simulation models with a capacity-building approach.
VITO leads a consortium composed of the Malian Institute of Rural Economy (IER), the Meteo Agency (Mali-Meteo), the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), and the Flanders Research Institute of Agriculture (ILVO).
